67% of UK women feel they are underrepresented in finance & STEM
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Public Finance International is paying tribute to the female leaders in finance who are making a difference. From financial educators and editors who supply sound advice to everyday Brits, to Chairwomen at some of the largest banks in the world.
Public Finance International also surveyed 1000 women in STEM positions, and 67% feel they are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) – the below is a clear reason why they shouldn’t and should continue to strive in this field.
Name: Baroness Shriti Vadera
Position: Chairwoman, Santander UK
About Her: Baroness Shriti Vadera is the first woman to head a major British bank, but before this, she held positions as the non-executive director of BHP Billiton and AstraZeneca, and has been an advisor to several big financial and corporate groups.
Name: Eileen Burbidge
Position: Chair, Tech City UK & Partner, Passion Capital
About Her:Eileen has been called one of London’s most influential capitalists and has worked for some of the most reputable companies in the world, such as Apple, Yahoo, and as one of Skype’s earliest employees. She’s now founding partner of a top London venture capital firm, Passion Capital.

Position: CEO, Lloyd’s of London
About Her: As Chief Executive Officer at Lloyd’s of London, Inga Beale is a worthy Wonder Woman in Finance. No stranger to great accomplishments, in the 2017 New Year Honours she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the economy. Pow, whack, bang!
Name: Kim Hammonds
Position: COO, Deutsche Bank
About Her: Kim Hammonds only joined the financial industry when she started at Deutsche Bank four years ago, but she’s proven herself a true leader for years. Previously, she was in global executive positions at Boeing and held management positions in Dell and Ford Motor Company. Now, she’s responsible for technology and operations at one of the world’s leading financial service providers and is leading the charge to re-engineer the Bank in a way that equips for the future.
