Birds Eye teams up with Robert Welch to create limited edition fork-spoon hybrid
For years, Brits have been united by one common mealtime challenge – eating a mouthful of peas without them rolling off the fork.
Birds Eye has revealed that a total of 7.7 billion peas are lost from forks nationwide each year and Brits are not happy about missing out on their beloved frozen vegetable, with almost a third (29 per cent) admitting to feeling frustrated or clumsy (27 per cent) as a result.
Over the Easter weekend, 2 in 3 Brits are planning on eating peas with their roast dinner, so Birds Eye is swooping in to save countless peas from escaping, with the launch of the ‘Petits Spork’. The fork-spoon hybrid design will help Brits safely hold and deliver a mouthful of sweet and tender Petits Pois.
Created in partnership with renowned British cutlery brand, Robert Welch, which holds royal credentials of two Queen Awards, the mirror-polished utensil has the perfect curvature and depth to safely hold a whopping 52 Petit Pois with each mouthful, in comparison to an average sized fork which can only manage just nine.
Kerry Alexander, Senior Brand Manager from Birds Eye, said: “Our Petits Pois is a premium pea variety that is smaller in size than the normal garden pea, making them even trickier to eat with a standard fork. We wanted to create something to help people out when eating their roast dinners – and we’re delighted with the result. Our Petit Pois are packed with vitamin c, protein and sweetness, so we hope our new invention will mean that more goodness ends up in people’s diets and not on the floor!”
Social media has long been rife with shoppers sharing their challenges for eating peas with a fork, with many agreeing upon the skill needed to successfully and enjoyably balance peas on an average fork or spoon.
One Twitter user said “Eating peas with a fork is such a difficult task. Felt like I was on The Cube” and another stated “I don’t have enough patience to eat peas with a fork”. A Twitter user also commented “I love peas. The only downside is that they are hard to grab with a fork or a spoon”.
The perfect gift for pea lovers, 200 of the limited-edition ‘Petits Sporks’ are available to buy from the Robert Welch website for just £5.
Birds Eye is also giving pea fans the chance to win one of 20 ‘Petits Sporks’ on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
Kaouther Montacer-Shilvock, Head of Customer Connectivity at Robert Welch, said: “We understand the need for well-functioning designs, that’s why our products combine the ideal marriage of form and function. The limited edition ‘Petits Spork’ is part of our Radford collection which has been created to be perfectly balanced and satisfying to hold and use. We make products that are made to last in every sense of the word, which is why we’re proud to offer a lifetime guarantee on all of our cutlery.”
Picked and frozen at exactly the right time to ensure their deliciously sweet taste, Birds Eye Petits Pois Peas are perfect for adding more colour, and goodness to your roast dinner.
