Qemistry takes a swipe at the online dating scene with video-only dating app for the TikTok generation

Say goodbye to filtered pictures, fake profiles and dull dates – the highly anticipated dating app Qemistry has launched to answer the dating prayers of the digital generation, with members’ profiles formed from a series of video clips.

Already having amassed a waiting list of thousands of single and ready-to-mingle Londoners, Qemistry is now open to the public nationwide. Inspired by the power of video on social media, Qemistry syncs online dating with TikTok, Instagram and Snap, so that wannabe daters can interact in a more authentic way. It is the only dating app in the UK positioned for Generation Z.

Online dating has caused well-documented social problems despite over 12 million people in the UK using them frequently. Often looks driven, coupled with the lack of personality being presented online, many dating apps can exacerbate racial biases, mental health issues, and catfishing.

Ever turned up on a first date with someone only to discover they look nothing like their profile picture (catfish alert!)? Or, after months of messaging, realised there’s just no real-life spark? Video profiles help to solve these issues, because everyone can show off their true selves – resulting in more honest, fun and meaningful dates. Qemistry offers an entirely new way of dating.

The app is simple and easy to use. Users can upload pre-recorded videos downloaded from their social media profiles to the App. Whether it’s a holiday with your mates, walks with your pampered pooch, a choreographed dance routine or just a simple hello to camera, Qemistry believes that true chemistry can be gauged by body language, voice and personality.

The idea for the app came to London-based singletons Emma Clark and Sachin Karia in early 2020, after coming to the joint realisation that the online dating scene had become boring and stale. Whilst the market was thick with options, they felt something vital was missing, so set out to solve this problem and evolve what existing dating apps offer, bringing them in line with the rest of social media.

Qemistry users can expect TikToks, Instagram stories, Reels and playful videos you throw around with your mates, allowing members to get to know their match before they have even sent their first like.

Qemistry co-founder Emma Clark said, “Dating was turning into a chore – we’d wasted so many evenings meeting people that we could tell weren’t a match after the first five minutes. With Qemistry people can express themselves through video, and let their personality shine through, leading to better matches with more likeminded people. We truly believe video-based profiles can help you to find someone you vibe with – the true secret sauce to a potential lasting relationship.”
Once the seed formed, the pair set out to parks around London to speak to thousands of singletons about what they were looking for in a dating app. A new take on dating apps, Qemistry was built directly on insights from its target audience, with a trial, invitation-only version of the app amassing a 4.9* rating on the App Store in a matter of months.
If you want to meet people you can’t wait to see again, do yourself a favour and download Qemistry. After a long year locked indoors, it’s time to make up for lost time and meet matches worth matching!

Qemistry is available to download now from the App Store and is coming to Android soon.
