WARWICKSHIRE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE CELEBRATES BLOOMING BRILLIANT ART WITH LOCAL HOMEBUILDER

Women’s Institutes across Warwickshire are celebrating all things flora and fauna following a recent Flower Power competition.

Members from Institutes across the county were invited to take part in the organisation’s competition that ran throughout June and July. With the competition’s title as their only brief, the creative possibilities were endless as members could use crochet, watercolour, knitting, felting, clay, and even fresh flower arrangements to create their showstopping piece.

After the competition closed, a winner was chosen by Warwickshire Federation Trustee Glynis Forknall. She said: “Firstly thank you so much Ladies for entering the competition and the high quality of everyone’s entry.

“I have carefully looked at them all and I am amazed at how much work has gone into each one. Warwickshire WI have some very talented ladies.”

The winner of the competition was Beryl Hessey from Cawston Grange WI in Rugby. Her unique floral arrangement was created from sugar paste, made to be a centrepiece at her son’s wedding.

As the winner of the competition, Beryl received a £50 National Garden Centre Voucher that was donated by leading developer David Wilson Homes. The homebuilder offered the prize as part of its outreach into the local areas in which they build.

Second place was awarded to Maureen Hipkiss from Polesworth WI, and third to Jennie Long from Hatton Park WI. Melanie Smith from Mancetter WI just missed out on the top three, but her creation was highly commended by Glynis during the judging period.
