TOTAL FITNESS CEO FEATURES IN BOOK OF THE BEST OF BRITISH LEADERSHIP

CEO of leading health club Total Fitness – Sophie Lawler, has been featured in a book which highlights the best of British leadership in the UK.

The St James’ House 300 years of leadership and innovation book features expertly written articles on those who have shaped British society, past and present; from Churchill to Blair, The Queen and Prince Charles, to captains of industry including Sophie Lawler.

Sophie is one of 280 business leaders included and has been recognised for her track record of transforming businesses such as Total Fitness, both in the UK and internationally.

The book celebrates Sophie’s remarkable contribution to the health and fitness industry over the last 20 years, her people powered approach to business and passion for leadership. Most notably for her success turning around the mid-market health chain where employee and member satisfaction rose rapidly and a long-term decline in membership was reversed, following her appointment in June 2018.

The news follows a period of significant change for the health and fitness industry which saw the enforced closure of gyms due to the coronavirus pandemic. During this time, Sophie has become a leading voice of the sector, campaigning for the safe reopening of the sector. She has also promoted the importance of health and fitness during and after a global pandemic in supporting the nation’s physical and mental wellbeing.

This is the latest in a string of accolades for Sophie’s success in transforming the mid-market health club, after being awarded 2019’s National Businesswoman of the Year and named as one of the Top 100 Women in Hospitality and Leisure and the Insider’s 42 under 42.

Sophie Lawler, CEO at Total Fitness, comments: “I’m honoured to have been featured in the 300 Years of Leadership and Innovation, an extremely prestigious project and one I’m immensely proud to be part of.

“The last year has been extremely difficult for the Total Fitness team and members, as well as the health and fitness sector as a whole – however, it has proven now more than ever just how important fitness is for our physical and mental wellbeing and why this industry is so critical in people’s lives.

“While there’s work to be done to rebuild the gym sector following 18 months of enforced closures, as a business we have the right team and intrinsic purpose to emerge from this challenging period stronger than ever.”
