Eco nappy business expands network of experts across the UK, including London
Encouraging parents to make the switch to reusable nappies without feeling overwhelmed has been The Nappy Gurus primary goal since day one. The ethically minded business has developed an unrivalled online network to guide and nurture parents who are on cloth nappy journeys and has welcomed eight new experts to the network in 2022.
The Nappy Gurus network of experts already includes over ten eco-friendly parents from all over the UK. The nappy network aims to educate about the benefits of using reusable cloth nappies and support families on their cloth nappy journeys.
From London to Northern Ireland, the eight new Gurus joining The Nappy Gurus network in 2022 include:
Dianne Annett – Northern Ireland
Laura Hayhoe – Gloucestershire
Jennie Cranham – Essex
Sarah Hopkins – North Tyneside
Claudia Fabris – Warwickshire
Tom Low – Northamptonshire
Tallie Thomas – London
Claire Evans – Leicestershire
Founder of the Nappy Gurus, Laura Davies, comments: “As a sustainably focused company, we love sharing our insights on why reusables cloth nappies should be the go-to option rather than disposables. However, people must not only hear about this from us, it’s important to hear from real parents who have their own experiences of using cloth nappies.
“There are so many benefits of using cloth nappies over disposables, and who better to tell other parents about these benefits than eco parents who experience them on a daily basis.”
Each day in the UK alone, eight million nappies are thrown away and sent to landfills, which will take around 500 years to decompose¹. Here, nappies will create extremely harmful greenhouse gases in the form of methane, which is one of the main contributors to climate change. On top of this, disposable nappies are more expensive than reusables, another reason why parents should consider making the sustainable switch.
During infancy, parents can expect to spend £1,200 on disposable nappies, wipes and bags, whereas cloth nappy parents will only spend around £300 in total for their cloth nappies. Nappy Gurus are passionate about sharing these environmental and cost-saving benefits and are excited to be welcoming more parents to the network to ensure their important message is reaching even further.
Speaking with the Nappy Gurus is Tallie Thomas, a new Nappy Gurus member based in London: “We made the switch from disposable nappies to cloth when my second born was around two/three months old. We had always thought about it but kind of felt it was a little complicated. I think as second-time parents we felt a little more confident and this time around cloth didn’t really phase us. The real decider for us was that our son suffered from super bad nappy rash and with the switch to cloth it was never a problem again. At this point in our life, we were becoming a little more eco-aware and also felt that one less nappy in landfill could only be a good thing.
“A lot of our support was focused on social media, seeing how easy it looked through Instagram accounts made it feel a lot more accessible. I also had a friend who was using cloth and we had a great sit down and talk through all my different options which were super helpful. At the beginning of my journey, I also filled out a Nappy Guru advice form which made things very clear and help with our first purchases.
“I joined the Nappy Gurus network as I have found that the advice they give is real advice and not pushy. As a doula I have to be behind products and companies I believe in and I love the whole ethos behind The Nappy Gurus.
“I am really hoping I can support the parents I work with by easing them into cloth so it never seems overwhelming. I am planning on attending a few antenatal classes and post-baby meet ups to do in-person events as I feel meeting people in person is so valuable.”
Laura Davies adds: “We are so excited to be expanding our Nappy Guru network and to be educating parents from all over the UK on the benefits of switching to cloth. Adding eight new members to our eco-driven network in 2022 reflects the number of parents making more sustainable choices now more than ever. With this, guidance and support must be there for parents on their reusable nappy journeys.
“For parents who are new to reusables or who are hesitant to try cloth, engaging with our team of eco experts will help alleviate any worries or concerns you have about making the switch from disposables to reusables.
“We are looking forward to seeing what new advice and tips our 2022 Gurus have to offer, and we hope this insight encourages other parents across the UK to take on sustainable practices.”
