To help support Cancer Research UK’s ‘Walk All Over Cancer Month’ during March, Bedfordshire developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes recently organised a walk in Wixams to help raise funds and awareness for the cause.

Leading the stroll from the Southern Cross development was Leon Staszak, a member of the Wixams Community Group and The Wixams Walkers, who teamed up with the leading homebuilder to host the community event.

The organised walk aimed to help residents complete their 10,000 daily steps as part of the awareness month. Alongside this, residents could make a donation to Cancer Research UK, to add to Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ £500 contribution.

As part of an effort to bring the community together, The Wixams Walkers is tailored to people of all ages and abilities and provides an opportunity for residents to get some exercise, meet their neighbours and explore different parts of Wixams.

Amer Alkhalil, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: “We’re very happy to have worked with The Wixams Walkers to put on this guided walk for our residents at Willow Grove.

“With many people taking part in the 10,000 steps a day challenge, we wanted to give them a helping hand to complete their steps. As well as this, we hope that the walk gave new homeowners an opportunity to get to know their new neighbours.

“We’d like to thank Leon and all of the Wixams Walkers for leading the walk.”

There are currently four walking routes run by The Wixams Walkers; all taking place in and around Wixams which are approximately two miles and take between 45 and 60 minutes to complete.
