STAFF AND GUESTS WITNESS UNUSUAL ROMANCE BETWEEN FISH AND PEPPA PIG TOY AT SEA LIFE MANCHESTER

A copperband butterfly fish, who is a resident at SEA LIFE Manchester, has struck up an unlikely friendship with Peppa Pig.

Staff and guests have commented on the attachment following the toy being added to the aquarium display in the lead up to the Peppa Pig activity trail event, launching 5th September.

Copperbands are known to form monogamous pairs for breeding, however they can be very picky and territorial over their patch too, so it is advisable to keep them apart. However, this particular Romeo of the ocean is proving that there’s more than just plenty of fish in the sea for those on the lookout for love.

The copperband shares its days with a pair of seahorses, who mate for life, so this may be the cause of the creature’s bizarre choice in solemate.

Jenn McDonough, General Manager at SEA LIFE Manchester, said: “This is a very unexpected and unique situation. Although both Peppa and George toys have been placed with the fish for the event, the copperband only seems interested in the Peppa figure, swimming in circles around it in a protective manner.

“They share no similarity in looks, except for their prominent snout like nose and the animal care team are more surprised than anyone that this could occur.

“Guests will be able to visit the centre and see the romance blossom during the Peppa Pig interactive experience. The immersive trail features several activities for visitors, like spotting seahorses and crabs to counting starfish and learning how fast sharks can swim.

“We look forward to welcoming guest to our Peppa Pig aquarium adventure this September, let’s hope the copperband gets used to sharing Peppa with the rest of the country!”

The Peppa Pig event will be taking place from September 5th – September 25th, where guests will be able to meet Peppa herself and enjoy a range of themed activities and trails while exploring the aquarium.
