LEARNING DISABILITY CHARITY RECEIVES £1,500 DONATION FROM CAMBRIDGESHIRE HOMEBUILDER
Rowan, a charity that provides a unique arts-centre for adults with learning disabilities in Cambridgeshire, has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.
The donation will help the charity with the cost of running its creative workshops in wood, textiles, print, mixed media, ceramics, music and drama.
The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Rose Bloomfield, Fundraising and Events Manager at Rowan, said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear we had been chosen to receive a donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes. We rely on the support of our local community and businesses to help us provide our services and continue to support adults with learning disabilities so this was a huge boost to our fundraising.
“The donation will enable us to purchase the necessary equipment and resources used in our daily creative workshops. The Arts have been identified as a great way to enhance the lives and provide opportunities for self-expression and personal development for people with learning disabilities and this donation is vital to enabling us to do this.”
Since 1984, Rowan has provided a safe, creative, enriching and welcoming environment where the arts are used as a tool to bring people together, reducing loneliness, helping tackle social exclusion, whilst developing potential and improving happiness, health and wellbeing.
Rose continued: “Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme is fantastic. As a local charity, we rely on the support of these types of corporate schemes, and we know first-hand just how important they are to small charities.
“We would like to say thank you so much to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for supporting Rowan. We are passionate about what we do and we are committed to raising the money required to continue to make a real difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities.”
Rowan is open five days a week, 50 weeks a year, and support over 80 students.
