HyperJar announces the appointment of Morgan Stanley veteran Rob Rooney as CEO
Rob Rooney has been appointed HyperJar’s new Chief Executive Officer three months after joining the Board.
Two years since launch, the HyperJar digital wallet has half a million customers and a slew of awards for its world-first tech features. Rob’s appointment is a significant step for the firm as it prepares to scale its business-to-consumer and business-to-business offers.
Rob was at Morgan Stanley for 32 years and served as a member of the firm-wide operating committee; CEO of Morgan Stanley International; Co-Global Head of Fixed Income and most recently Global Head of Technology, Operations and Firm Resilience.
Founders Paul Rolles and Mat Megens will move into new roles as Architect, Business and Architect, Consumer, respectively. Scott Davies, a HyperJar board member since January 2019, becomes Chairman of the Board.
Commenting on his appointment, Rob Rooney said:
“I’ve been a huge fan of this business and its mission since I first invested a couple of years ago. The closer I get to the team and the product the more I see HyperJar’s potential to help millions of people and thousands of businesses, particularly in the current economic climate.
“Not many opportunities could have tempted me, but I know extraordinary tech when I see it. I’m starting this role full of excitement and confidence in the company’s ambitions and look forward to helping scale it at speed.”
HyperJar co-founder, Mat Megens, said:
“Rob’s experience represents a CEO wish-list in human form for this stage of HyperJar’s growth. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone with his expertise, network, and reputation. Paul and I have known Rob for years, as a world-renowned banking and tech expert, international business leader and a smart, supportive colleague.
“He’s exactly the right person to work with us on fulfilling HyperJar’s potential in the UK and globally.”
HyperJar co-founder Paul Rolles, said:
“I’ve known Rob since I started at Morgan Stanley over 30 years ago. I’m thrilled that we finally get to work together again, and I look forward to taking HyperJar to the next level with him, Mat, and the team in 2023.”
