Three quarters Londoners set to street party this May in coronation street extravaganza
Whip out the trestle tables and lay on a feast fit for a King, as ahead of the Coronation, research from Ocado has revealed over three quarters of Londoners* (77%) are set on attending local street party celebrations, with 41% keen to host.
89% of London locals said they’d be willing to chip in to the cost of a street party, with the average contribution coming in at £9.80 per person – 60p more than the national average of £9.20, and £2.60 more than those in Scotland!
The top reasons to look forward to this crowning moment were deemed by Londoners to be because it’ll unite their community (58%) as well as help them get to know their neighbours (47%).
And with the official Coronation recipe revealed last week, Ocado has seen significant search increases** for the recipe’s ingredients as keen cooks get cracking in the kitchen. Whilst general searches for ‘quiche’ rose 78% compared to the previous month, searches for the star ingredient, ‘broad beans’ more than tripled, increasing by 251%, ‘fresh tarragon’ more than doubled at 172%, and shortcrust pastry rose by 130%. The supermarket has even created an online aisle dedicated to the royal recipe and all things quiche, so shoppers can easily find everything they need.
In aid of the festivities, Ocado has launched a one-stop-shop for all things street party, with everything from impressive centrepieces and picnic snacks, to party decorations and serveware, all within one virtual shop. Elsewhere on the sire, shoppers can even find a number of Coronation recipes to keep guests happy including the gluten-free Rice Crust Summer Quiche and a fresh take on an older Coronation classic with the Coronation Chicken Salad.***
Ocado’s Food Expert, Laura Rowe commented: “There’s no denying that May’s Coronation will be a huge moment in history – for most of us, a once in a lifetime occasion – so naturally we’re all geared up to celebrate. Gathering so many people and putting on such a spread can feel like a mammoth task, but we’ve made it easier than ever by hosting everything you could need in one place, without even having to leave the house. Whether you’re stocking up on classic British food and drink or those limited-edition novelties to dress up the house, Ocado’s all set to deliver this May. ”
