Charlie Adam quotes on Rangers: Rangers Should Hijack Celtic’s Move For Striker Douvikas; Butland Will Bring ‘Presence & Personality’ To Rangers; Rangers Would Finish In Top 10 In PL

In an exclusive interview with NeueOnlineCasinos.io former Rangers midfielder, Charlie Adam, weighs in on The Gers‘ summer transfer business.

Adam also gives his assessment of the job Michael Beale has done at Rangers so far.

Rangers should hijack £7m move for Celtic-linked striker Douvikas

When asked if Rangers should hijack the move for £7m Celtic-linked striker Anastasios Douvikas, Adam said;

“Well they definitely need a striker. Morelos is moving on and Kemar Roofe has been injured a lot and Fashion Sakala is not a natural goalscorer. So I think they need a whole new spine really. They’ve signed Kieran Dowell so there’s one coming in. Then if you can get a number nine that can go and get you goals then that gives you a platform.”

No danger of Tavernier leaving

When quizzed on whether Tavernier will be out the door with new right-back Dujon Sterling signing for Ranges, Adam said;

“No. At big clubs you need competition. There’s no point in Tavernier having it easy every preseason thinking ‘I know I’m going to play’ regardless of his performances. You need competition in every group and that will bring out the best in Tavernier. Sterling might be someone that can come in and play in other positions as well so Michael is obviously thinking like that too. Since Nathan Patterson left they’ve not really had that competition at right back that’s challenged Tavernier and will only make the group stronger. There’s no danger of Tavernier moving on in my view.”

Butland will bring ‘Presence & Personality’ to Rangers

Speaking on the breaking news Rangers are on the verge of signing Adam’s old Stoke teammate Jack Butland in goal, Charlie said;

“I was lucky enough to play with Alan McGregor. He’s a special goalkeeper and for me he’s the greatest Rangers goalkeeper ever. A lot of people will say ‘what about Andy Goram?’ but I’m going on what I see and what he’s produced over the years. If they can get Jack Butland over the line, it will be a big statement. I like him as a goalkeeper, he’s a top goalkeeper. I played with him at Stoke and I think if you look at when Celtic signed Joe Hart, he brought stability, he brought presence and personality and I think that’s what Jack will bring. He’ll be a big presence. He had a couple of difficult years in terms of injuries. When we were at Stoke he was on the cusp of making a big move but he got an ankle injury and I was gutted for him. He’s a great lad and exactly the type of player and person that Rangers need to bring in. If you can get your goalkeeper right then you can build the rest from back to front after that.”

Letting Arfield, Kent & Morelos go is a big call from Beale

Assessing the job Michael Beale has done so far at Rangers, Adam said;

“He’s had a period now of five or six months of being in the job and seeing what he wants to do. He’s changed things and made big decisions in terms of letting players go. McGregor is retiring but letting Arfield, Kent and Morelos leave is a big call. He’ll say they’ve done great for the football club but it’s time that I started to put my own imprint on this club and this group. I’ve only met him a couple of times but what I hear about him is all very impressive. He’s a good man manager, a good coach which is something you need so I ‘m delighted he’s getting the opportunity.

Rangers would finish in top 10 in English Premier League

When asked where the current Rangers team would finish in the EPL if competing next season, Adam replied;

“It’s tough. The English Premier League is a top quality league. Rangers would need big investment. If they got that they would be in the top 10 and eventually they’d progress and be able to attract the players. They’re a big, big club and they would attract the best players if they were in the English Premier League, there’s no doubt about that but it takes time to build. At the moment it would be very tough. The distance and the gap is too much. I think Celtic would be about the same. Both clubs would have to invest very heavily to be able to go and compete down there. If we’re talking about going and finishing 17th or 18th in the Premier League then that’s a different matter. But you still see some of these clubs spending hundreds of millions of pounds and finishing 14th or 15th. That’s the numbers you’re talking about in terms of finances. But the longer they stayed in the Premier League they would be able to compete at the top end of that league down the line.”

We don’t promote the SPL well enough

Talking about the competitiveness & promotion of the SPL, Adam said;

“I love the Scottish game but I don’t think we promote it well enough. Yes Rangers and Celtic dominate the league and they will dominate it for as long as they’re in the league because of their financial status. But what I can say is Aberden, Hibs, Hearts, for them to get into European football, you’re talking about £5m for Aberdeen to qualify for the Europa League and what Hearts did last year… It’s amazing and it helps them strengthen the foundations within the club. It makes the game better because they can improve year on year and the league becomes a little bit stronger as well. I think it’s good but it’s difficult for these teams to compete with the Old Firm and as long as Rangers and Celtic are in the league I don’t see any other team coming close to winning it.”
