Charity to hand out FREE vegan yoghurts – at a city near you!

This summer, the UK’s leading vegan charity Viva! will be touring the country handing out free plant-based yoghurts to show people how delicious dairy-free foods are.

Named the YogHURTS tour, campaigners are taking to the streets to educate members of the public about the dairy industry as part of Viva!’s biggest anti-dairy campaign ever: Müller Killer. This campaign specifically targets zero grazing – an intensive farming method that sees cows locked inside for their entire lives – and also raises awareness that the whole dairy industry is full of cruelty.

While handing out the free vegan yoghurts – which will be available in a range of flavours – the Viva! team will be speaking to the public about the reality of where dairy products come from.

People can also participate in an immersive experience that will help them understand what life as a zero grazed dairy cow is like. Entering an isolation tent and handed headphones, individuals will witness real footage from a zero grazing dairy farm, giving them a unique insight into the dairy industry.

The tour will kick off in Bristol on 12 June, with the team then travelling to Nottingham, Birmingham, London, Oxford, Cardiff, Leeds and Manchester. More tour dates are to be announced.

The YogHURTS tour is the latest element of the Müller Killer campaign, which was launched after an investigation discovered leading dairy brand Müller sources some dairy from zero grazing farms.

Recent research commissioned by Viva! and conducted by OnePoll found that the public had a poor perception of zero grazing, with 69 per cent finding it unethical and 56 per cent saying it should be banned completely.

Speaking about the YogHURTS tour, Viva!’s managing director Laura Hellwig said: “I’m so excited for Viva! to be going on the road this summer, bringing plant-based deliciousness to a city near you! We often find that one of the major barriers for people transitioning to veganism is that they’re scared about not liking vegan food. However, once they try it, they realise how tasty it is!

There’s a misconception that dairy is an idyllic industry, but the reality is that dairy is just as cruel as meat, if not more so. Dairy cows are forcibly impregnated every year, enduring a pregnancy and birth only to have their newborn calf taken away shortly after birth. Their milk is stolen for human consumption, and the repeated process of pregnancy and birth continues until she no longer produces milk, when she is killed for low-grade beef. The life of a dairy cow is one of suffering and misery. We must treat animals with kindness and go vegan now.”
