BioPak pass £2 million charity milestone as they launch sustainability report for 2023

BioPak has launched its sustainability report for 2023 which announces that the company has passed a landmark charitable figure.

BioPak’s ‘Give Back Fund’ has now donated over £2.2 million to charity since the company was established. As a profit-for-purpose business, BioPak has pledged to donate a percentage of its profits to positive change through social and environmental restoration initiatives. In the UK these initiatives include donating thousands of meals to the Worcester foodbank and planting over 99,000 trees with Ecologi.

BioPak’s report also includes the impact that the company’s packaging has had in the last year. This includes 22,721 tonnes of plastic avoided, 118,036 tonnes of carbon offset, 31,659 trees planted and 169,355 meals donated.

There are also statistics on the company’s Compost Connect initiative which has now helped to divert over 4,000 tonnes of waste from landfill, create 2,800 tonnes of compost, as well as sequester and avoid over 2,000 tonnes of carbon. The composting initiative is already established in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and will be launching later this year in Singapore for the first time.

Gary Smith, Chief Executive of BioPak, said: “We’re proud to report on our latest progress in the 2023 Sustainability Report. I feel that we’re continuing to set the benchmark in our industry for how to behave in a way that’s not only sustainable for the business, but also sustainable for the planet.

“However, we’re not resting on our laurels, we know that’s there more we must do and we’ve outlined numerous plans in our report to make BioPak even more sustainable – whether it’s through innovative new product materials, the significant expansion of our compost connect initiative or the launch of new plastic-free products.”

Earlier this year BioPak celebrated winning the McDonald’s Japan Sustainability Award, as well as the World Star Packaging Gold Sustainability Excellence Award and the 7-11 Sustainability Excellence award. BioPak was also awarded global B Corp Certification which included the UK offices for the first time.

With single-use plastic bans planned in the UK for October this year, BioPak is also prioritising work with local food and drink businesses to fully prepare them in being compliant ahead of the ban.
