Liverpool fans defy club to show solidarity with Palestinians
Liverpool supporters will defy rules set by the club and the Premier League by holding aloft hundreds of Palestinian flags during Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest
In solidarity with the besieged Palestinians, they will display hundreds of Palestine flags at their game against Nottingham Forest.
A group of Liverpool fans coordinated the distribution of hundreds of flags to fans ahead of the game and displayed the flags during the pre-match playing of the club anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone.
A spokesman for the group said: “The fans of Liverpool, mindful of this club’s proud history of standing up for the downtrodden and the oppressed have chosen to wave the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the steadfast people of Gaza and Palestine resisting the occupation of their land. We will not stand by and watch as innocent men, women, and children are besieged and pulverised by an illegal occupying force.”
“Politics cannot be separated from football. As the Palestinian people face continuous bombardment and a total siege, we must do everything we can to support their fight for freedom and an end to the Israeli genocide.”
“This is only the start. We’ll continue to show solidarity with the Palestinian people until the Israeli occupation ends and the Palestinian people have a homeland.
