London’s couples might have the best Valentine’s Day in Europe
A new report from the global e-commerce platform Ubuy has revealed the 10 cities in Europe with the highest number of romantic activities for couples.
What makes a city romantic? And this Valentine’s Day, where will Europe’s couples be having the most romantic dates?
Global e-commerce platform Ubuy wanted to rank Europe’s capital cities to find out. They counted how many fine dining restaurants, 5 star hotels and romantic tours were listed for each city on TripAdvisor. They also created a second list, by taking the top ten and ranking them by which had the best score per capita.
Speaking on the ranking, Faizan Khan at Ubuy said:
“A perfect Valentine’s Day will mean different things to different people, of course. But we feel that you can’t go wrong with a romantic tour, a table for two, and a stay in an upmarket hotel! Our research shows that while Europe’s capitals are full of lovely things to do, one city came out on top with the highest number of activities for couples – London. However, when you take the population size of each city into account, you can see that the city with the best score per capita is Lisbon.”
Let’s get into the top ten cities.
In first place is London, whose huge score is mostly due to the high number of fine dining restaurants in the city – 1361. The city also has 138 hotels rated 5 stars on TripAdvisor, and there are 6 romantic tours also listed on TripAdvisor couples can enjoy together. The city received a total score of 1505.
Surprisingly, Paris did not emerge as the number one most romantic capital city, but it is close behind London. It has 60 romantic tours listed on TripAdvisor, by far the highest number of any city Ubuy researched. Paris also has 1275 fine dining restaurants and 105 hotels rated 5 stars. Total score: 1440
Coming in third, it’s the capital of Italy. Rome is the city of St Valentine himself. With so much to explore, and so much beautiful architecture, it’s easy to understand how there are so many tours for couples in this city – 26. The city also has 840 fine dining restaurants, as well as 50 hotels rated 5 stars according to TripAdvisor. Total score: 916
The city of Madrid has the next highest score. It has 790 fine dining restaurants where couples can enjoy a romantic dinner together. The Spanish capital is home to 33 hotels rated 5 stars and 2 romantic tours. Total score: 825
Not far behind Madrid at all, with only 8 less points, it’s Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, in fifth place. This beautiful city on the Lisbon Coast has 775 upscale restaurants, and 43 5 star hotels according to TripAdvisor. Total score: 818
To round off the top ten, here are the rest of the cities that ranked. Athens came sixth, with a score of 812 – couples celebrating Valentine’s Day here do so against a backdrop of one of Europe’s most exciting cityscapes, so it is no wonder that there are 31 romantic tours. Next was Prague, scoring 609, with 603 fine dining restaurants. Berlin ranked in eighth place with 595, followed by Budapest which scored 448. Finally, Amsterdam came tenth, with a score of 392.
The top ten, accounting for population size
A second list shows the same top ten in a different order, accounting for population size. Taking the population into account brings Lisbon up to the very top of the list, sending London down to ninth spot.
Amsterdam has so many romantic attractions for couples that when you take its population into consideration, the capital of the Netherlands comes up to fifth place. This beautiful city on the canals has 67 upscale restaurants, 16 5 star hotels and 9 romantic tours for couples to enjoy.
