The aisle has been created following research by Iceland, which revealed that 6 in 10 people find traditional aphrodisiacs such as oysters are in fact a turn off for them, with 8 in 10 saying that comfort foods are more likely to affect their romantic feelings.

With #datingadvice and #datingsucks racking up 25.2 billion and 287.7 million views respectively on TikTok, it’s safe to say that the dating world isn’t for the faint of heart. Not only do we have to navigate what seems like hundreds of potential red flags, but we have to do this predominantly online where it’s very easy to just share the best of yourself!

So, how can we make sure we’re experiencing the most positive side of dating, and don’t fall into the trap of dating app fatigue? The team at sexual wellness brand www.lovehoney.co.uk spoke to Dating and Relationship expert Callisto Adams to get the low-down on what exactly dating fatigue is and how we can look to overcome it.

Q: What exactly is dating app fatigue?

A: “Simply put, dating app fatigue is a sense of burnout you get from using dating apps for a prolonged period whereby you’re not seeing, or getting, what you want from the interactions you’re experiencing.

“You could be on the lookout for a specific type of person, and you’re counting on dating apps to find them, or you thought you found someone who is of interest, but it turns out to not be the case. As a result, you might continue using the app(s) in the hope of finding what you’re looking for, but to the point where you’re just exhausted from the search.”

Q: How can we overcome dating app fatigue?

A: “The first thing you can do is manage the time you spend on dating apps. Setting clear limits on exactly how long you intend to swipe on dating apps can be a great way to manage fatigue. It can be easy to get lost in the surge of swiping, so it’s important to take a step back and be mindful of how much time you’re spending online.

“Secondly, don’t swipe on someone you’d never speak to. When you’re continuously swiping on a dating app, it can become easy to zone out and lose touch with what you truly want from a partner. This can leave you with numerous matches, but none you’d actually have a genuine interest in. Instead, make sure to stay true to what you’re looking for from a potential match.

“Another easy way to avoid dating app fatigue is to simply limit the number of people you speak to at once. When you’re speaking to multiple matches at once, it can become easy to lose track of your conversations. This can result in never truly connecting on a genuine level with one individual. By limiting the number of conversations you’re having at once, you’re able to form deeper connections.

“Managing your expectations is another important thing to keep in mind when you’re on dating apps. Searching for the perfect match can naturally be quite an exciting prospect, but it’s important to manage your expectations before going into it. Not everyone you match with online will be right for you, and that’s completely ok. It’s essential that you’re not expecting too much from a potential online love prospect so you can avoid any disappointment later on down the road.

“Finally, take it easy! With all things considered, it’s important to not put too much pressure on yourself while online dating. If you’re not enjoying your experience, or you feel it’s becoming too overwhelming, have a break and try to reconnect with yourself.”
