Yoo Capital secures prestigious partnership agreements for Camden Film Quarter development
Yoo Capital, the real estate investment firm known for transformational mixed-use developments, is pleased to announce the appointment of five expert partners to the Camden Film Quarter project.
Announced in April 2023, Camden film quarter will be the product of Yoo Capital’s vision to create an entirely new creative neighbourhood, delivering a hub for film, creative industries, education and providing hundreds of new homes and thousands of jobs. Working with Camden Council, and consulting with local residents, businesses and community groups at every stage of the project, Yoo Capital’s vision is to build on the success of the British creative industries by providing vital space for the sector to grow in central London and by attracting global creative talent to the capital.
To ensure the masterplan vision delivered matches the scale and ambition required to compete on the international stage and deliver for the local area, every partner has been carefully selected based on their experience of large scale projects and ability to demonstrate that destinations can be shaped to allow community, culture, sustainability and commercial viability to coexist.
Creating a Functional Masterplan Vision
Appointed to lead the masterplanning vision designs, SPPARC – the London-based architecture studio responsible for projects including the co-design of Yoo Capital’s £1.3bn transformation of Olympia and Southwark’s Borough Yards – will create an initial design that seamlessly integrates this new creative district into the fabric of Kentish Town.
Trevor Morriss, Principal Architect at SPPARC, said: “Joining a group of best-in-class partners, it is an honour to design the masterplan for this landmark project delivering London’s first significant film complex. Drawing on our experience designing some of the city’s major regeneration projects focused on the arts and culture, we look forward to working in close collaboration to bring to life Camden Council’s vision for a sustainable mixed-use neighbourhood that supports one of the UK’s thriving creative industries.”
With a commitment to opening the site and creating connectivity to the surrounding areas, Yoo Capital are working closely with Momentum, an integrated transport consultancy who collaborate with clients and partners to create forward-looking transport solutions that address the needs of the future city. With an aim for communities to benefit from their strategies and recommendations, people and their communities are always at the centre of Momentum’s work.
Acknowledging the transport sector as the biggest contributor of carbon emissions in the United Kingdom, Momentum are also passionate in their approach to sustainability and the creation of healthier places for communities – recognising that the traditional “business as usual” approach to transport planning is inadequate in the context of the climate change emergency facing the modern world.
Roy McGowan, Managing Director of Momentum, said: “For the Camden Film Quarter the transport and connectivity strategy will be carefully and diligently designed by our team of engineers, designers and analysts to create transport solutions that inform and integrate with every aspect of the built environment today and for the future. This is an important opportunity to reconnect this piece of Kentish Town with its adjacent communities, transport facilities and open spaces”
