INSPIRATIONAL BRENT HEADTEACHER HONOURED IN PRESTIGIOUS UK CELEBRATION OF TEACHING
Andrea Rosewell, Headteacher at E-ACT Braintcroft Academy, has been honoured for her work leading the academy with a highly prestigious national award. She has won a silver award in the ‘Headteacher of the Year’ category at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, at a school celebration which also featured local dignitaries and former pupils.
School staff at E-ACT Braintcroft had arranged an assembly which they told Andrea was in honour of Thank a Teacher Day. At the assembly, attendees watched a video montage of Andrea’s current and former pupils praising her, before she was surprised by former students and Brent Mayor Aslam Choudry who presented her with the silver award.
After the assembly, pupils celebrated both the award win and Thank a Teacher Day by dressing up as their teachers and welcoming members of the Brent community into school.
Winning the award has placed Ms Rosewell on a shortlist for the Gold Awards, which will be announced in November. Gold award winners will also have the opportunity to appear on the BBC’s The One Show.
As well as awards recognition, Ms Rosewell’s work has been recognised at the highest levels of government too. The former Minister for Schools, Rt. Hon. Damian Hinds MP, recently congratulated Ms Rosewell on the very high level of progress made by pupils in their 2023 KS2 Reading Writing and Maths assessments, which put Braintcroft among the top five percent of primary schools for progress in the country.
Ms Rosewell hasn’t just delivered in terms of academic improvement though. Under her guidance, the lives of the children and their families have been transformed. Afghan and Syrian refugees, along with others from disadvantaged backgrounds, find in Braintcroft not just an educational institution, but a sanctuary of hope and a launching pad for their aspirations. Ms Rosewell’s initiatives, such as support groups for women affected by domestic violence and celebrating diversity, have built a strong, inclusive community spirit that underpins the academy’s ethos.
Ms Rosewell has also been shortlisted for Headteacher of the Year in the Tes Schools Awards, with the winners announced on 21st June.
Martin Fitzwilliam, National Director of Primary Education, said:
“Well done to Andrea on winning this prestigious award which fairly reflects how hard she works and how much good she has done at Braintcroft. It was wonderful to see how many of her current and former pupils wanted to contribute to the film and sing her praises! The ceremony was the perfect highlight for Thank a Teacher Day and a lovely way to celebrate the work that school staff do every day.”
Tom Campbell, CEO at E-ACT, said:
“Congratulations to Andrea on winning this well-deserved award. She is an exceptional headteacher who has been truly inspirational for staff, pupils and parents across the E-ACT community. We are all thrilled that Andrea is being recognised across the sector for the brilliant work she does.
