COLINDALE GARDENS COMMUNITY PREPARES FOR JOYOUS MOON FESTIVAL

Members of the local community are invited to Colindale Gardens’ second annual Moon Festival on Tuesday 17th September from 8:30pm onwards.

At the free event, residents at Redrow London’s Colindale Gardens development in North West London, and the wider community, can partake in a traditional Chinese harvest festival. Celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar, it is a day when Chinese believe the moon is at it’s brightest.

As well as being one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture, attendees will be able to have a go at making lanterns with given lantern paperwork or paper brought from home. There will also be the exciting opportunity to tackle 60 lantern riddles – 16 in English, 38 in Chinese – as well as six maths riddles!

The event is being organised by the Colindale Gardens Social Committee which aims to provide activities that build a harmonious and happy community. Since being formed in 2020, the committee has been organising activities and events such as yoga classes, International Women’s Day and the annual Colindale Gardens Summer Fair. They have also created several clubs for residents to join such as their Family Club, Gardens Club and Board Games Club.

Kamal Hersh, Chairman of the Colindale Gardens Social Committee, said: “Over 20 residents have volunteered their time to make this year’s Moon Festival happen and it should be the best one yet! We’d encourage anyone from the local community to come down and join us for the Moon Festival next week.”
