‘Xmas: Bold as Love’ as new Christmas displays come to the Mayfair homes of Jimi Hendrix and George Frideric Handel!

Handel Hendrix House, the musical historic house museum at 25 Brook Street Mayfair, will be opulently dressed for Christmas this year from Thursday, November 21 through to Sunday, December 22, 2024, with late night openings on Thursdays (November 28 and then December 5, 12 and 19.)
The museum was once home to two legendary musicians: the great composer George Frideric Handel lived there for more than 30 years, and rock legend Jimi Hendrix made his home in the cosy top-floor flat between 1968 and 1969. First opened in 2001, Handel Hendrix House has recently undergone a major refurbishment and restoration.
This Christmas, Handel and Hendrix’s homes will be decorated for Christmas with timeless festive decorations inspired by the building’s musical past. Visitors will experience:
Handel’s 18th-century rooms and Hendrix’s 1960s flat, all bedecked with decorations
An immersive display about the composition of Handel’s Messiah, performed around the world at Christmas time, which was written in the house
A Georgian kitchen laid out for a feast
Live music Friday-Sunday
Family crafting inspired by 1960s Christmas decorations

Late openings on Thursdays, with mulled cider or mulled apple juice
The museum gift shop with unique gifts to buy for the person who has everything

Handel wrote Messiah at his Brook Street home in just 24 days in August-September 1741. Although first performed at Easter, the piece is firmly associated with Christmas with countless performances taking place at this time of year. Jimi Hendrix dressed as Santa Claus for a photoshoot with Dezo Hoffman to promote the launch of the album Axis: Bold as Love in December 1967 and an album of Hendrix playing Christmas music was released posthumously in 1974.
