LABOUR WHIP SHOULD BE ‘PERMANENTLY WITHDRAWN’ FROM DAWN BUTLER MP, SAYS GB NEWS PRESENTER NANA AKUA

GB News presenter Nana Akua has issued an open letter calling for the whip to be “permanently withdrawn” from the MP Dawn Butler by Sir Keir Starmer over allegations of racism after Dawn Butler retweeted a divisive post by Nels Abbey (which she has since deleted).

Writing on GBNews.com, Nana explained why she felt the Labour MP’s comments were unacceptable:

Dear Prime Minister,

As a black female journalist and broadcaster, I am outraged that Dawn Butler is being allowed to continue as a Labour Member of Parliament despite her racist and divisive comments.

These have previously ranged from calling black people who do not share her views “racial gatekeepers” to a video in which she claimed to be the “chosen one”. She has now shared an extremely concerning post online.

To be clear, this latest incident is not a one off. And I think it is totally unacceptable she has been allowed to continue with her behaviour. I am deeply concerned this gives the green light for others to incite racism towards other black people.

I would also like to see you treating Nels Abbey’s offensive racist post – which referred to “white supremacy in blackface” – towards Kemi Badenoch in the same way you treated those who incited violence during the riots in July.

As a black female journalist, I have had to tolerate this kind of racist abuse constantly, and it does not help when Members of Parliament stoke the fire in this way.

That’s why I am calling for the whip to be permanently withdrawn from Dawn Butler. Racism should not be tolerated from any politician.

Nana Akua
