The Stage, a landmark development in the heart of Shoreditch, will bring Shakespeare’s timeless world to life by unveiling a series of stunning window displays showing scenes from the iconic play ‘The Winter’s Tale’, created in partnership with Global Street Art.

Titled ‘Winter’s Ethereal Glow’, each window will offer a unique and creative interpretation of the source material, with the sets mirroring the play’s exploration of time, change, and renewal, inviting reflection on the power of redemption and healing during the festive season. The project offers an alternative to a traditional Christmas installation and champions culture, creativity and free public art in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch.

The first window will be created via an intricate silhouette technique, with cutouts layered on top of each other and illuminated by dramatic lighting, casting dynamic shadows that will add depth and movement to the scene. In the central window, delicate die-cut wooden panels will be paired with vibrant coloured Perspex, using lighting and reflective materials to form a dazzling display of colour, create a striking, modern stained-glass effect to visually tell the story of key moments from the play. The installations, along with a complementary printed piece which will envelope a third building, will offer a bold fusion of traditional and contemporary art, reimagining Shakespeare’s work in a captivating new light.

From Wednesday 4 December, visitors are invited to watch the ‘Winter’s Ethereal Glow’ windows come to life piece by piece. The final installations will be completed and open for full public viewing from Monday 9 December. The display will be in place until January 2025.
