Rethinking pet food, Scrumbles, Gut health start up appear on prime time TV
This Sunday the 11th of August, Scrumbles co-founders and pet parents, Aneisha Soobroyen and Jack Walker, entered Dragons’ Den seeking investment to grow their responsible pet food business in the UK and raise awareness of the importance of gut health.
Inspired by their own pet’s tummy troubles, the husband and wife team, quit their corporate jobs to develop a range of probiotic dry food, single source protein wet food and guilt free treats. Working out of their kitchen initially, Aneisha and Jack developed gourmet pet food recipes with 100% natural ingredients, nothing artificial and no added sugars or salts.
Since launching in June 2018, Scrumbles has become the go to for the health-conscious pet parent and those whose pets have sensitive stomachs. A recent British Veterinary Association survey estimated that over 70% of non-routine appointments were for digestive health and skin issues. Scrumbles pet food has been created specifically to address this issue, incorporating unique functional gut friendly ingredients like probiotics and slippery elm.
An accredited B-Corp, Scrumbles take sustainability seriously and have set out ambitions to have a net positive impact on the environment and communities they serve. To that end they have launched a range of guilt free treats which are baked in ovens powered by woody biomass and packed in plastic free compostable packaging. They also support a number of animal charities like the Mayhew, through the donation of food and funds to help those in need.
