Hydes Pubs welcome walkers for National Walking Month

As May marks National Walking Month, Hydes Brewery is celebrating the great outdoors by highlighting a collection of its characterful pubs across the North West that are perfectly placed for walkers, ramblers, and lovers of scenic strolls.
With routes ranging from gentle riverside walks to more challenging countryside hikes, these Hydes pubs are ideally located to offer a well-earned rest, hearty food, and a refreshing pint at the end of a walk.
The Joshua Bradley in Stockport, surrounded by the green spaces of Werneth Low Country Park, is a popular choice for walkers taking in the panoramic views over Manchester and the Cheshire Plain. In the rural setting of Affetside in Bury, The Pack Horse offers access to a network of walks including Top o’ the Knotts, a contouring farmland stroll with vide views over Bolton to Winter Hill, and Jumbles Country Park, a 4 mile walk which descends through flowery pastures and then circumnavigates a scenic wooded reservoir.
The Hornsmill at Helsby sits within easy reach of the Sandstone Trail, one of Cheshire’s most picturesque long-distance walking routes, which winds through woodlands, hills and open countryside. The Harry Beswick in Heswall is close to the Wirral Way, a peaceful coastal path running along a disused railway line with far-reaching views over the Dee Estuary.
The Coach and Four in Wilmslow offers a perfect base for exploring the River Bollin and the leafy paths through The Carrs and nearby Styal Country Park. The Mount Inn in Chester stands close to the historic city walls and the River Dee, offering walkers the chance to soak in a blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks. On the outskirts of Manchester, The John Millington in Cheadle Hulme is ideally placed near Bramhall Park and Happy Valley nature reserve, while The Golden Lion in Rossett invites visitors to enjoy peaceful riverside walks through the Welsh borders.
For those who enjoy being near the water, The Boathouse in Parkgate is situated on an RSPB nature reserve and offers a scenic starting or finishing point for a walk along the marshes and salt flats of the Dee Estuary. Its charming location and birdwatching opportunities make it popular with nature lovers. In Tarvin near Chester, the Stamford Bridge pub is perfectly positioned for those exploring the rolling Cheshire countryside and nearby Roman trails, offering a relaxing countryside setting with a large outdoor area for a post-walk refreshment.
Hydes pubs have long been a favourite for those who enjoy the blend of fresh air and good food, and this May, Hydes is encouraging people to lace up their walking boots and make the most of the beautiful landscapes on their doorstep. With seasonal menus, award-winning ales and dog-friendly outdoor spaces, each of these pubs provides a warm welcome to walkers.
Adam Mayers, Managing Director of Hydes, said: “Many of our pubs are lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the North West’s most stunning walking routes, and we’re proud to be part of those local landscapes. National Walking Month is a great reason for people to get outside, enjoy the countryside, and discover somewhere new. Whether you’re tackling a longer trail or just heading out for a gentle weekend stroll, our pubs are the perfect place to take a break, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy a well-earned drink.
“With a warm welcome, freshly prepared seasonal food, and a great choice of cask ales and drinks, our pubs are an ideal stop for walkers. Throughout May, we’ll also be offering local walking suggestions and making sure our venues are as walk-friendly as possible – from dog-friendly beer gardens to cosy spots to relax after a day outdoors.”
With the longer days and milder weather, this is the perfect time to explore the walking routes of the North West and discover the comfort and charm of a Hydes pub along the way.
Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of 40 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.
