The Rooney family’s unconventional breakfast choices, tailored to each child, have divided opinions, and a team of specialist butchers have shared their perspective.

In her latest interview with Image, Coleen Rooney discussed her morning routine and the breakfast options available for her sons and one of them may shock you.

Cereal isn’t the main option for the former-Man U star’s family, with pancakes, bacon and steak as common options, even before school. Coleen mentioned, “They all have different breakfasts and I have friends who say ‘why don’t you just put cereal out on the side and let them help themselves?’.

When asked, “So you’re cooking to order?” “Yeah. We have steak, we have bacon, we have pancakes,” Coleen replied. “We have… I have got one who will, like, mostly have cereal.”

But what listeners found the most ‘extreme’ is that 10-year-old Kit regularly has steak at 7 am for breakfast, sparking debate among parents online. “I like to know they’ve gone out with a full stomach, with something that they actually wanted,” she said.

Some praised her as a great, down-to-earth mother, while others worried the children were being spoiled, with one saying, ‘God forbid their future wives.’

We decided to ask the experts. The butchers and chefs at online butcher Campbells Meat weighed in on whether feeding your children steak for breakfast is actually as controversial as the internet made it out to be.

According to the team, while steak is packed with protein, iron, and B vitamins, there’s a reason nutritionists recommend limiting red meat intake. “The reality is that while the occasional steak breakfast won’t hurt, making it a habit can be problematic,” they said.

“A heavy meal like steak at 7 am can actually slow kids down,” they explained. “Their bodies are working harder to digest such a dense meal, when they should have energy to focus, learn and play. Eating red meat first thing can put unnecessary strain on their digestive system, too.”
