The infamous cake-versus-biscuit debate has, once again, reignited after The University of Buckingham’s Debate Society took to social media to declare, incorrectly, that Jaffa Cakes are biscuits. This time McVitie’s is responding by opening its factory doors as it rolls out its new Jaffa Cakes Digestive nationwide to set the record straight once and for all.

Jaffa Cakes has now released new footage revealing the truth behind how the Jaffa Cakes Digestives came to be. Captured at the McVitie’s factory in Stockport, the video contains definitive evidence to prove, once and for all, that Jaffa Cakes are cakes.

Created in time for National Biscuit Day (Friday 29th May), the brand’s sentiment around their new product is clear: ‘We’ve created a biscuit, to prove we never were one’.

A spokesperson for McVitie’s commented: “We’re finally setting the record straight, once and for all. Jaffa Cakes are, and always have been, cakes! We’ve loved seeing the hype around our new limited-edition Jaffa Cakes Digestives, with packets flying off the shelves already. They’re currently only available in Sainsbury’s but Jaffa fans will now be able to pick them up at all major supermarkets and convenience stores across the nation, from 29th June.”

From getting the Jaffa-flavoured layer and biscuit-base just right, to the all-important taste test, the new content provides a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of what’s set to be a new fan favourite this National Biscuit Day.

Swapping the signature Jaffa Cake sponge with a dunkable digestive base, this limited-edition sweet treat combines the iconic golden-baked Digestive biscuit with an unmistakable Jaffa Cake flavoured layer fans know and love. The result? A Jaffa Cakes Digestive that brings together the best of both brands in one biscuit. (Yes, you read that right – biscuit.)

McVitie’s McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Digestives are currently only available in Sainsbury’s and will now roll out across retailers nationwide, from June 29th. RRP: £2.35.
