Londoners may be among Britain’s most confident kissers despite being the least likely to have kissed someone romantically recently, according to new YouGov research commissioned by Waken Mouthcare for its Big Kiss Report.

The study found just 21% of London adults say they kissed someone romantically in the last 24 hours, the lowest figure anywhere in the UK and significantly below the national average of 29%. Despite lower levels of recent kissing, Londoners also recorded some of Britain’s highest confidence scores around romance. The capital recorded:

One of the UK’s highest proportions describing themselves as “very confident” kissers (19%)
England’s highest rate of checking their breath before a date (31%)
The lowest score nationally for saying being “relaxed and natural” makes someone instantly kissable (37%)

The findings suggest many London adults approach romance with higher levels of preparation and self-awareness than other parts of the country.

Simon Duffy, founder of Waken Mouthcare, said: ”The London findings capture an interesting contradiction in modern dating culture. People want to project confidence, but many are simultaneously preparing for intimacy much more carefully.”

Rylan, Creative Director and “Head of Teeth” at Waken, added: “London is doing what London always does: lots of confidence, lots of preparation… slightly less actual kissing.”

The findings form part of Waken’s wider Big Kiss Report, a social-first campaign exploring Britain’s real-life kissing habits, anxieties and romantic rituals
