Man due in court charged with rape of 17-year-old girl near Piccadilly Gardens
A 24-year-old Afghan man has been charged following reports of the rape of a 17-year-old girl on Hope Street, near Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre, at around 1.30am on Tuesday 14 July 2026.
Abdul Shinwari (01/01/2002), of no fixed abode, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, non-fatal strangulation and possession with intent to supply and was remanded into custody.
He will appear at Manchester Crown Court on 25 August 2026.
Specialist safeguarding officers are continuing to support the victim.
