Independent housebuilder Dandara has donated inclusive sports equipment to Broughton Fields Primary School in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The county has a longstanding connection to inclusive sport as the annual location of the Stoke Mandeville Games, widely recognised as the precursor to the Paralympic Games.
The school is located near the housebuilder’s The Acres, Manor Park and Meadow View developments.
Half of school pupils with special educational needs or disabilities are not fully supported to achieve their potential in Physical Education (PE) lessons[1]. To help encourage participation, Dandara has donated a Tchoukball set, a non-contact, mixed-gender sport designed around inclusivity, teamwork and accessibility. This follows a summer of sport, including the Commonwealth Games, Football World Cup and Wimbledon.
The seven-player game can be used during break times and PE lessons at Broughton Fields Primary School, helping ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to take part in physical activity and enjoy the benefits of sport.
Rachel Lindop, Head of Sales at Dandara Northern Home Counties, said: “At Dandara we are dedicated to supporting local communities and helping where it is needed most. Buckinghamshire has a proud history of celebrating inclusive sport, and we wanted to honour that by supporting opportunities for children at a grassroots level.
“Encouraging pupils to get involved in sport from a young age is important not only for their physical wellbeing, but also for building confidence, teamwork and social skills. We hope this Tchoukball set will help ensure every child has the opportunity to take part and enjoy being active.”
Helen Thomas, Assistant Principal at Broughton Fields Primary School, said: “”At Broughton Fields, we strive to provide inclusive opportunities for all of our pupils. We are pleased to welcome a range of community groups and organisations who use our school site during school holidays, including those that provide activities and support for children with additional needs. The Tchoukball set, donated by Dandara, will help us to further promote inclusion and provide engaging sporting opportunities for all pupils through our PE and inclusive sports provision.”
Dandara is currently selling a selection of homes across Milton Keynes at its Manor Park, Meadow View and The Acres developments. Prices start from £300,000 for an apartment at Manor Park or £415,000 for a three-bedroom home at The Acres.
