AGGIE MACKENZIE has revealed she struggled to get along with co-star Kim Woodburn saying she was “difficult” and “stressful” to work with.
The women worked together from 2003 until 2009 for Channel 4’s cleaning programme ‘How Clean Is Your House?’, which saw the pair transform rundown and dirty homes across the UK.
In an exclusive interview with Nana Akua on GB News today (SUNDAY), Aggie revealed: “I think we’re chalk and cheese, and so different from each other, but I think that was one of the reasons why it worked.
“Because of the friction there was between us, it created this energy and so we knew how to be in front of the camera. I mean, most of it was ad lib. We had an idea of the storyline, but we just kind of made it up as we went along.
“Kim is not the most straightforward person. I’m somebody who just likes to get on and Kim had a very difficult beginning, a difficult childhood and I think in her home, growing up, there was lots of conflict, many rows and she spent a lot of her childhood in a children’s home.
“And I think for her, it’s kind of normal to have conflict and I think that if things are calm and easy, I think she found that quite difficult. That’s not me, I like it easy peasy. There were lots of highs, and a few lows.
Explaining why things came to an end she continued: “I think it sort of came to a natural end. You know we’d done many years and also our relationship., it was kind of just becoming a bit difficult. A bit too difficult actually, and I think we both needed a change as well. We did it for a while and it became really I mean, it was very stressful. We did it for six years, and that’s a long time.”
Meanwhile Aggie has also shared her best tips for home cleaning.
She said: “Vinegar is amazing – you don’t need to buy loads of products or loads of chemicals and you don’t need to spend loads of money.
“For me, it was from Good Housekeeping and I knew all these amazing things that vinegar could do. And so actually in the last few years I co-wrote a book about vinegar with my ex colleague from Good Housekeeping.
“She did the recipes using vinegar, and I did all the cleaning tips using vinegar. In fact this Thursday, the book is coming out in paperback and it’s just full of great tips and lovely recipes and I highly recommend it.”
Discussing how she looks after her health now she’s in her late sixties, Aggie explained: “Every morning I have apple cider vinegar. I’ve been taking it for years. I have arthritis and I have got no pain with it whatsoever. And I think it’s brilliant for your digestive system, good for hair, good for skin. I think it’s fantastic. I just take a couple of teaspoons every morning.”
The healthy lifestyle doesn’t stop there as 67-year-old Aggie is now also a qualified yoga teacher: “When I got to 50 I thought I better start moving my body and doing some exercise. So I thought, what do old people do? Yoga!
“So I started doing it in the beginning and I thought I’m bored and then I got to like it, and then I got to like it so much I thought I want to train to be a teacher.
“It was really hard work, it was like 18 months and a lot of writing for a dissertation, a lot of anatomy and physiology but then I qualified and I’ve been teaching for about six years now. I actually teach every day and it’s the best thing ever.
“I’m so pleased to have this in my life. I’m fitter, more flexible, stronger than I’ve ever been. And most of the people I teach, they’re sort of my age but I do also teach young people as well.
“People say to me what sort of yoga do you do and I go ‘Well it’s called ‘mongrel yoga’ and it’s all a bit of a mixture’. So I look to see who’s in front of me and if they’re young men then they’ll want something a bit more dynamic. Actually one of my students is 82 and she’s just amazing, and I love teaching her and so I take it a bit more slowly and play it straight.”
Opening up on her personal life, Aggie added: “I was married and divorced but I get on very well with my ex husband. I’ve got two grown up boys and they’re 32 and 28. I’m going to become a grandmother in the summer and I’m so excited. Both my sons are chefs, and they’re just amazing – I actually feel quite nervous cooking in front of them!”
