Amanda Barrie says she would have ‘ended up in the Tower’ if she’d taught Prince Charles ‘the birds and the bees’
CORONATION Street legend Amanda Barrie has spoken about a seven-decade long career in show business.
She told GB News the decision to go on stage was “not a conscious decision: I had my mother firmly behind me.”
“It was ridiculous to say but I actually felt as if I’d been there before. I mean, I don’t necessarily believe in all that, but I didn’t enjoy them. You do it and you say, ‘oh good, it’s over.’”
The actress, who started as the eponymous Cleopatra in “Carry On Cleo”, told Mark Dolan she could not have considered any other careers.
“I couldn’t consider any other careers. I was expelled from both my schools.
“I could not do anything else, but I couldn’t tap dance, so I didn’t have any alternatives.
“My parents disappeared and got divorced and I got expelled from even my ballet school. So I was forced to go on the stage.”
“I was always in trouble. I always thought things were funny. I always sort of thought there was a laugh to be got out of something.”
