Anchor opens new care home in Skipton
This week later living provider Anchor was joined by Mayor of Skipton, Councillor Sheila Bentley to officially open the doors of its new care home The Mill House on Sackville Street, Skipton.
Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life, invited the Mayor and professionals from the local community for a special launch event of the newly built care home.
The Mill House is a new luxury care home overlooking the Leeds and Liverpool Canal with 86 ensuite rooms and eight independent living apartments. Designed to meet the specific needs of residents, the home is built on the site of an old mill and offers state-of-the-art facilities including restaurants and cafes, a village shop, beauty salon and private landscaped gardens. The Mill House is located a short distance from the town centre and local amenities and won the Development of the Year category at the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards 2023.
The Mayor enjoyed a tour of the home after cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of The Mill House, alongside Anchor’s Director of Villages and Care Services Maria Bamford.
Mayor Sheila Bentley said: “Many congratulations to everyone involved in the opening of The Mill House care home. It was lovely to meet with Anchor staff and it’s clear that residents will be welcomed into a warm and vibrant setting to receive thoughtful and individualised care, which will be a great addition to our local community.”
Maria Bamford, Director of Villages and Care Services at Anchor, said: “We’re very proud of this new high-quality care home, set in a beautiful location overlooking the canal and benefitting from top-quality facilities to provide residents with the very best of care.
“With 60 years of experience Anchor is continuously working hard to meet the changing needs and expectations of our residents, and this latest addition to our portfolio of care homes showcases the progress we are making towards creating more and better homes for older people.
“We look forward to welcoming new residents to this fantastic new location and enabling them to continue to love living later life.”
The Mill House is built to an Energy Performance Certificate A rating standard with a focus on sustainable heating systems and generating renewable energy through solar panels. The care home will replace Anchor’s Thornton Hill care home on Church Road and residents and colleagues will move to the new location. Equipped with modern facilities, the new home has been built to meet the needs of today’s residents and the residents of the future and will provide the highest standard of person-centred residential and dementia care to every resident.
The Mill House is now recruiting for various positions, including care assistants, to join the established care team from Thornton Hill. Every new colleague will receive comprehensive training and professional development opportunities and can expect all the support they need to make the most of their career. Anchor also offers a wealth of benefits designed to boost wellbeing and support colleagues.
