Dame Andrea Jenkyns has said she needs to see the “finer details” of Reform’s policy on a one-off fee for non-doms which the party plans to spend on a new benefit payment.
Speaking on GB News, Dame Andrea Jenkyns said:
“I’m a Thatcherite supporter, even I can get behind this, because Labour’s making such a hash of everything, we’re losing the millionaires out of Britain.
“This is a way to bring them back again and show them that we’re serious about creating a climate where everybody can thrive. And at the same time, we’ll have your money and we’ll give it to the most needy.
“Interestingly, the Robin Hood Party messaged me on Twitter today, thinking that we’re pinching their policies.
“But look, I think it’d go down well in the red wall. You know, I’m a working class girl myself, and we do need to pull off Labour. We’ve started to pull off Labour for us to win that majority.
“And I think the fact that we’re giving from the most wealthy who have left Britain, quite a lot of them, to give to the lowest income earners, I think that’s a good thing.
“We can appeal to both. I mean, I think that’s what Thatcher did, wasn’t it that. She won in red wall seats and she ran in the blue wall seats as well.
“And what Thatcher was about, it was about the pride in our country. It was about a strong armed forces and this is what Reform is about.
“As our tagline goes, it’s about community, country and family as well. So we can do both.
“And the fact is, we do want to abolish the inheritance tax, and I would like to see it abolished full stop as well. As somebody who works hard, I want to give my house and my assets to my child.
“I mean, look, we need to see the fine details. But what I would like to see is British people, we abolish inheritance tax and the non-doms, we take their £250,000.
“The British people are the priority for Reform so they come first. And this is why we’re trying to get money from the non-doms.”
