ANNINGTON HELPS CARTERTON SCHOOL CHILDREN REMEMBER WAR HEROES

Annington, the company responsible for building new homes on the site of the former MOD properties at The Crescent in Carterton, has partnered with The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) help children at nearby Carterton Primary School in to remember fallen Service men and women by planting wildflower seeds in their memory.

Native wildflower seed packets were given to children at Carterton Primary School ahead of War Graves Week, to be planted at home in remembrance of those that have died in the First and Second World Wars. Once fully grown, the flowers will bloom throughout the summer months, and the children have been invited to share a picture of the wildflowers on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #WarGravesWeek, with the best photo receiving £200 in local garden centre vouchers.

The competition formed part of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s first ever War Graves Week – a week of national activity. Having taken place between the 21-28 May 2021, War Graves Week shone a light on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s work and the people who keep Remembrance of our war dead alive.

Emma Wells at Carterton Primary School commented: “It’s very important to us to teach the children about our history, and the donation of seeds will help us to encourage them to remember those who died in the World Wars. We’re very grateful to Annington for donating the wildflower seeds to us, and look forward to seeing our miniature memorial gardens bloom over the coming months.”
