Barbie Fans Driving Up Interest In Pink Convertibles | AutoTrader
According to data from AutoTrader, car listings advertising convertible Chevrolet Corvettes (i.e. the same model as Barbie’s car) have racked up over 12,000 views in the last month, that’s 120% more views compared to this time last year for the same amount of stock.
Despite being a rare car, with just seven convertible Chevrolet Corvettes in stock on the AutoTrader website, these unique motors are garnering an unprecedented amount of interest from keen buyers who have been inspired by Barbie’s famous motor.
As well as Barbie’s specific Corvette convertible, AutoTrader’s advert data also shows that general interest in pink convertibles has also gone through the roof! Pink convertible advert listings are up 93% compared to this time last year, proving the Barbie impact is making waves even in the auto world.
Additionally, by analysing Google search data over the past three months the leasing experts at AutoTrader reveal that searches for ‘Barbie movie car’ have spiked by 450% since the official trailer was released. As soon as the world had a glimpse of Margot Robbie (playing Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (as Ken) driving down a Californian-inspired highway, Google searches for the bright pink Corvette convertible started trending, with searches for ‘Barbie Corvette’ rising by 80%.
Barbie’s pinker-than-pink vintage convertible is a fifth-generation Chevrolet Corvette with all the iconic features; a curvy silhouette, retro trims, and a mix of white and hot pink bodywork and bubblegum pink interiors – it is exactly as you would expect from a car in Barbie land.
But the fun doesn’t stop there – the leather pink interior features white trim on the seats, gleaming with Corvette sports retro finishes and white wall tyres with chrome rims. It’s essentially the most Barbiecore C1 Corvette you will ever see!
HOW TO BARBIECORE YOUR CAR ON A BUDGET
Fans of both the Barbie-verse and classic cars can get a slice of the all-pink automobile without splashing the full $125,000 (£99,000) that Barbie’s car is estimated to be worth (source: Forbes). Auto Trader has shared some budget-friendly ways car owners can spruce up their cars in a Barbie and Ken-approved way:
Purchase a pink leather steering wheel cover: If you want to introduce a Barbie-feel to your car then it can be as simple and effective as getting a baby pink steering wheel cover to jazz up your interior. Not only will it emulate the Barbiecore vibes, but it will also protect your original steering wheel from wear and tear. A stylish and effective improvement. Starting at £12.
Spray paint it pink: Rather than hunting down a brand new car, a more budget-friendly way to get behind the wheel of a bubblegum pink vehicle is to spray paint. Although doing it yourself is not recommended, you can purchase the pink paint yourself fairly cheaply (£25 per litre) and then pay a professional to do the hard work. The latter will be the most expensive part and it is worth bearing in mind that on average, labour costs are around £120 to £150 per hour (source).
Purchase pink leather seat covers: Nothing says a Barbiecore car like pink leather seats. Thankfully, you can get your hands on the luxury look and feel of the leather seat for just £70.
Pink and white wheel caps: To really vamp up the exterior of the car you can also look at getting wheel caps that match the colour theme. For a pop of pink and white flower wheel caps prices start at just £40 for a pack of four.
Pink car mats: The important added extras inside your car can also match the theme. Baby pink car mats are a great way to protect the floor of your car and keep things neat and tidy, whilst also adding a bit of Barbie sparkle to the vehicle. Prices start from £60.
Now, time to get the roof down and go on a road trip channelling Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie energy.
