Berkeley East Thames continues 10-year charity partnership
Berkeley East Thames is pleased to announce that it will be continuing its 10-year charity partnership with Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Since 2012 a range of fundraising activities have resulted in excess of £500,000 being donated. Additionally, over 480 hours of volunteer work has been undertaken for the Greenwich-based charity.
The most profitable event which has taken place over the last decade is the annual five-a-side football tournament held at Goals, in Eltham. Last year’s event, September 2022, raised £49,000 alone – with all funds matched by the Berkeley Foundation (the charitable foundation set up by Berkeley Group). Staff have also obtained sponsorship donations to participate in long distance bike rides, mountain climbing expeditions and marathons for the charity.
Further support has come in the form of 480 hours of volunteer work being completed. Tasks such as garden landscaping, painting and helping out with organising items that have been donated to their distribution centre are always welcome. In 2019 Berkeley completely transformed three family rooms at the charity’s Eltham hospice (pictures attached).
The incredible work that Demelza Hospice provides is entirely dependent on the generosity of its supporters. Without money or people’s time, it would be unable to provide the care and support for seriously or terminally ill young people and their families, making charity partnerships like the one with Berkeley East Thames pivotal to its future.
Lavinia Jarrett, Chief Executive at Demelza Hospice Care for Children, said: “We are delighted that Berkeley East Thames will continue to be our charity partner. Over the past 10 years, it has not only raised awareness of our services through its supplier network and the Berkeley Foundation but also raised vital funds, helping us support more children and families who need us.
“Berkeley East Thames also generously provided the recent high quality refurbishment of the family rooms in our Eltham hospice. Improvements like this give families the space and opportunity to build memories, for however long they have together. Thank you for continuing to support Demelza.”
Karl Whiteman, Divisional Managing Director for Berkeley East Thames, said: “Demelza is doing vital work in the Greenwich community and we are delighted to continue our charity partnership with it. Whether it is time, or money, our staff recognise the impact its endeavours can have on the caring for children and ensuring everything is done to make them as comfortable as possible.”
Berkeley East Thames is currently delivering two developments in the Royal Borough of Greenwich – the historic Royal Arsenal Riverside in Woolwich and Kidbrooke Village near Blackheath, which sits in 136 acres of green space including the newly designed Cator Park and Sutcliffe Park.
