BERKSHIRE HOMEBUILDER’S TEAM OFF TO A TEE WITH CHARITY FUNDRAISER SUCCESS
A team of employees from Berkshire housebuilder David Wilson Homes has helped raise over £42,000 for the charity KidsOut with a golf day sponsored by its parent company Barratt Developments.
The golf day, which took place in Bristol, was attended by employees of David Wilson Homes Southern to show their support including Site Managers Chris Liston and Alex Gray, Surveyor Martyn Payne and Assistant Site Manager Jamie Kennedy.
Over 110 guests from local and national businesses participated and had the chance to take part in challenges on the day such as a ‘Chipping Challenge’ on the 19th hole where individuals would compete to get their golf ball in a boat sitting on the lake, and ‘Guess the total numbers of balls lost’.
KidsOut’s life-changing work helps give disadvantaged children positive experiences to support them becoming future members of our society and workforce.
Many of the children which the charity supports have fled domestic abuse with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. KidsOut helps them live out the childhood that they deserve by organising days out and delivering brand new toys to them at the refuge they have fled to.
Lucy Breeden, KidsOut Events Manager, said: ‘Like most, the past 18 months have been incredibly tough. It was great to see so many local supporters attend the golf day and help raise vital funds to expand the charity’s activities in the South West. I’d like to reiterate our thanks to the Bristol committee and sponsors for making this event so successful.”
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said, “We were proud to attend the charity golf day sponsored by our parent company Barratt Developments and the £42,000 will be going to a worthy-cause.
“The work that KidsOut does is admirable and we were thrilled to be a part of this event to raise money for children who need support the most.”
The money raised will go to a total of 56 refuges based in the South West which provide accommodation for children who have left emotional and physical turmoil in their previous home.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, KidsOut provided these refuges with 1,531 food vouchers worth £25,818, toy boxes, WIFI codes for every refuge, and 825 cinema tickets.
By October 2021, the charity will be offering all 56 refuges two child-friendly laptops with internet access – this will be a remotely managed and supervised system set up to enable the continued education of any child that is unable to attend school.
