Black-Mirror-esque NFTs in simultaneous real world and metaverse exhibition

The UK’s first simultaneous real world and metaverse NFT exhibition and party, See You in the Metaverse by artist Neocrassical, will take place on Saturday 6 November 2021.

NFTs in the form of crass comedy skits and a trippy audio-visual EP will be displayed on giant smartphones in a physical space in London as well as a 3D virtual gallery built by Neocrassical in the Cryptovoxels metaverse called Neocrassical World.

See You in the Metaverse is the artist’s debut NFT exhibition and will feature DJ sets by Myth, Wraith, Dotwavenotwave and Max Perish as well as a collaboration with fellow NFT artist Cansy who has transformed one of Neocrassical’s skits into collectible 3D cans.

The Black-Mirror-esque videos, featuring foul-mouthed animojis the artist voices himself, are both amusing and disturbing, touching on subjects such as drug abuse and social media addiction. From the Robot craving fame, to the drug addicted Alien to the self-important Londoner, the alter egos the artist creates are eerily relatable and highlight the pitfalls of the “rat race”.

Neocrassical says “I find that using the mask of an emoji frees you to self-express. Creating an alter ego removes the fear of taboo topics and the attachment to one’s ego.”

During the real world event in a secret London location, guests will be able to view a livestream of avatars in the metaverse and vice versa. VR headsets on-site will allow people to experience walking around the metaverse location where they can directly interact with the avatars of people joining live in Neocrassical World.

The artist says “NFTs represent a paradigm shift towards a reality where artists have sovereign ownership of the distribution and monetisation of their art. By cutting out the middlemen, artists have a more direct relationship with their community who profit directly from their success.”

Neocrassical is looking to build a community of people in London and in the metaverse who are interested in NFTs and music events. The event will become a regular series where the artist will collaborate and showcase the work of other NFT artists.

The event comes as another blockchain and NFT first ever for Neocrassical as they released the first ever comedy skit as an NFT, and the first ever audio-visual EP as an NFT earlier this year.
