Boris Johnson’s Mumblings Voted Most Annoying Sound
Following Boris Johnson’s announcement of further COVID-19 restrictions yesterday night, New research commissioned by Roku found that Boris Johnson’s press briefing mumblings were the most annoying sound in the UK for 2020 (45%) – sorry, Boris!
In a twist of fate, Matt Lucas’ hilarious Boris Johnson impression was found to be the most entertaining sound of 2020 (47%) with Piers Morgan talking over Susanna Reid not even coming close (19%). It’s a great example of British humour making the best of the pandemic.
Roku’s research delved into the sounds that summed up 2020. From those that inspired and kept the UK going, to the sounds that danced on people’s nerves. The research tied into the launch of the Roku Streambar – a two-in-one entertainment upgrade that adds 4K HDR streaming and cinematic sound to any TV. With features like ‘Speech Clarity’, the UK now has a better chance of making out Boris’ mumbles!
The research also found the top sounds in the following categories:
· Current Affairs: Nearly 40% choose the booming nationwide sound of Clap for Carers as the top sound, and the BBC News’ iconic intro music stayed in the minds of an overwhelming two-thirds of people.
· Reality TV: Amy Child’s insightful musings on her “Do you know what I mean” (29%) catchphrase and Kylie Jenner’s dulcet tones proclaiming “I’m gonna get wasted” (28%) came in a close second.
· Social media: Cardi B’s worldwide reaching “Coronavirus!” post was selected by two in five. Although, the Carole Baskin Savage remix received almost a third of votes.
· Sport: Over a third can’t wait to hear the opening ceremony of the postponed Olympic Games. Following closely, the eagerly anticipated Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury showdown is top for a third of the UK.
