BRITS NEED TO BREAK THROUGH BOUNDARIES TO DO THE EXTRODINARY
For most Brits, much of their day is spent in what is known as the ‘comfort zone’. This is a safe space where we know what to expect and shy away from breaking out into the extraordinary.
However, many of us would like to break away from traditional conventions but are too scared of letting ourselves go, abandoning routines and those classic British stereotypes.
But according to a new poll by Peperami, complimenting a stranger in the street, which Brits often shy away from, is the thing we’d most like to do in public but don’t have the guts to do it!
Going to the cinema alone, singing aloud and walking barefoot are other unconventional activities we are too embarrassed to indulge in.
The poll of 2,000 adults found 40 per cent consciously limit themselves in life, through fear of being criticised when doing things more freely.
However, over half feel more alive when they push themselves out of their comfort zone – but are often too scared to take the leap.
Pavan Chandra, Head of Peperami Marketing, who commissioned the research as part the brand’s ‘We All Go A Bit Peperami’ campaign, encouraging spontaneity amongst the nation comments: “We as a nation are traditionally known as being a bit stiff and reserved. However, if everyone went outside of their comfort zone once in a while, they’ll start seeing the fun and exciting side of life.”
It also emerged 47 per cent would like to step outside of their comfort zone more often, but 43 per cent don’t have the confidence to do so.
A third (34 per cent) would also worry what other people would think were they to be a bit more adventurous.
Interestingly, 43 per cent hold so much of themselves back they think others would be shocked to learn their true personality.
Friends would most commonly describe respondents as caring, kind or reserved – with the least selected traits being wild, intense or loud.
And when it came to adults stepping out of their comfort zone, on average they tried to do this seven times a week, feeling happy, free, or excited as a result.
While 62 per cent of those polled believe everyone should be able to feel like their most express self without judgement, yet a quarter (24 per cent) feel judged on a daily basis.
Trying something new, visiting a new place or something fun that makes you laugh, were the things that encouraged people to break out of the ordinary in everyday life.
Chandra added: “So many people are sticking within their typical routine and as the research revealed, lots reckon those closest to them would be shocked to see them doing something they wouldn’t normally do.
“We don’t think this is right and want to encourage people to let go on their shyness and do what they want more freely without embarrassment.”
The brand is encouraging the nation to embrace remarkable moments by breaking out of the ordinary in their daily lives. ‘We All Go A Bit Peperami’ it’s inside all of us!
To encourage the nation to break boundaries and have a moment of spontaneous joy, YouTuber Yung Filly is leading the way as Peperami’s new brand ambassador. In a unique 3-part video series launching today, Filly will be encouraging his close friends to let go of their inhibitions.
Filly will be challenging his nearest and dearest to go outside their comfort zones by learning something new, weird or wonderful before putting on a show to an audience. The activities include a hip-hop rap battle, synchronised swimming and LARPing (live action role play).
Yung Filly’s rap battle episode is available to watch via @peperamitv from today, followed by the synchronised swimming episode (29th September) and LARPing episode (6th October) featuring special guest Harry Pinero. So, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the hilarious content!
