Canary Wharf Winter Lights display returns this January

Artists from around the world will be exhibiting over 20 artworks, illuminations and interactive experiences at the biggest light art festival in London this January, as Winter Lights returns to Canary Wharf for the first time since 2020.

Over half a million people are expected at the free-to-attend 11-day festival, which opens on Wednesday 18 January 2023.

The bright lights of Canary Wharf will glow even brighter with installations including ‘Permafrost – Sleeping Giants by Fisheye’, which will bring brightly-coloured, giant mammoths to life and ‘Tom Lambert’s Out of the Dark’, a kaleidoscopic installation of mesmerising moving colour.

More artists and installations will be announced ahead of the festival, which is back for the first time since being put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival will be open from Wednesday 18 January to Saturday 28 January between 5pm to 10pm each day.

It’s the biggest free-to-attend light festival in the capital and we’re excited to be able to bring the world’s leading and most innovative light artists together again for our biggest show yet.”

Visitors at the Winter Lights festival will be able to combine the Instagrammable-experience with ice skating – with Canary Wharf also home to London’s longest-running Christmas ice rink which is open until 25 February – or shopping or dining at over 300 shops, bars and restaurants on the estate.
