Centrica and BaxterStorey donate 18,000 items to 49 food banks across the UK
Centrica, and their hospitality partner BaxterStorey have donated 18,000 items to 49 foodbanks across the UK in a partnership with The Trussell Trust.
Leading hospitality provider, BaxterStorey, provides workplace dining and hospitality services to businesses across the UK and has used its extensive supply chain to provide The Trussell Trust with direct access to the items food banks are in most need of, allowing each food bank to tailor their order. BaxterStorey then orders the items and they are delivered free of charge by its supply partners Bidfood, Jill M Jones and Pallas.
Funding the initiative, Centrica donated £43,000 of unused catering credit from their locations across the UK which is estimated to be able to provide 15,800 meals to families in need.
Samantha Stapley at The Trussell Trust said: “During these uncertain times more people than ever are likely to need to use a food bank. Having access to BaxterStorey’s supply chain enables individual food banks to order exactly what they need, and for the items to be delivered directly to each food bank. Toiletries are donated less frequently than food items, so are often in short supply. This initiative has enabled the food banks in our network to order over 1,700 bottles of deodorant, nearly 1,000 bottles of shower gel and over 1,300 toothbrushes.”
Over 18,000 products have been delivered to 49 foodbanks, including:
1,740 bottles of deodorant and antiperspirant
1,320 toothbrushes
2,772 cartons of juice
2,508 cartons of milk
600 tins of fruit
864 tins of tuna
978 bottles of shower gel
924 bottles of shampoo and conditioner
400 jars of pasta sauce.
Deliveries are going far and wide across the UK including to the Outer Hebrides off the north of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Darren Gilbertson, Group Manager at BaxterStorey, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this incredible donation from Centrica through the use of our supply chain, providing food banks with the essential supplies they need to support people up and down the UK.”
