‘CHAIRING’ IS CARING: CHARITY RECEIVES FURNITURE DONATION FROM OXFORDSHIRE DEVELOPER
David Wilson Homes has lent a helping hand to the charity SCRATCH with a donation of furniture from the show home at its Letcombe Gardens development in Wantage.
SCRATCH, (Southampton City and Region Action to Combat Hardship), provides services which relieve the effects of disadvantage and poverty for people living in Southampton and the surrounding areas. The charity assists the community by providing good quality second hand furniture, toys, domestic appliances and volunteering opportunities to people facing hardship.
The leading housebuilder donated a range of items such as mirrors, chairs and a sofa to the Southampton-based charity which visited the development to collect them.
In its last full year of operation, ending March 2019, SCRATCH’s volunteers were able to make a total of 1,318 deliveries, helping 1,647 adults and 1,265 children.
Ian Dowdell, Collections Manager at SCRATCH, said: “The majority of our referred clients have found themselves to be in need of our help after a traumatic experience and a period of time without furniture or the creature comforts that most of us take for granted.
“By delivering good quality items we are able to not only help with a person’s physical needs but also help to restore their self-respect and dignity.
“We wouldn’t be able to achieve this without kind and generous donations from the public and companies such as David Wilson Homes.
Thank you very much to David Wilson Homes on behalf of the thousands of adults and children that are referred to our charity and benefit from the wonderful donations we receive.”
Assisted by Sharon Smith, Sales Manager at Letcombe Gardens, the charity’s collection team was able to take away many items which are much needed for low-income families across Southampton.
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “As a five star homebuilder, we like to lead the way in not only the way we build homes, but also with support and contributions to nearby communities.
“We were thrilled to be able to donate our show home furniture from Letcombe Gardens to SCRATCH and we are proud that the items will be going to families who need them the most.”
