CHRIS HUGHES HEADS UP CAMPAIGN TO BRING PEOPLE ‘BEHIND THE SCENES’ OF BRITISH RACING

TV star Chris Hughes is encouraging racing fans to Bring A Friend and introduce somebody new to the sport of horseracing during National Racehorse Week which takes place 10-18 September.

Members of the public who book a place and attend as part of Bring A Friend will also be in with a chance to win a package prize that includes a VIP morning with Chris Hughes at a yard later in the year. With over 150 venues opening their doors across the country, including training yards, studs and retraining centres, it’s the perfect opportunity to get behind-the-scenes and see what life as a racehorse is really like.

Hughes, who is a racehorse owner and ambassador for National Racehorse Week, recently visited Jackdaws Castle near Cheltenham to show his friend his friend Danny, who has never been to a racing yard what goes into caring for and training a racehorse.

Hughes said: “National Racehorse Week is a fantastic way to introduce people to the sport. Having Danny at Jackdaws Castle was brilliant, and he was genuinely impressed by all the detail and care that goes into looking after each horse. I loved being able to share the behind-the-scenes action with a friend. For me the training and love that goes into each equine athlete is one of the best bits of our sport and everyone should see it for themselves.

“There are not many other sports where you can come and see the stars in training for free and it is a great way to learn about racing. I am really excited to launch Bring A Friend and look forward to meeting some of the sport’s new fans and show them what it is about horseracing I love so much.”

The open days during National Racehorse Week will allow people to get up close to the four-legged stars of the sport and will have a range of activities to showcase the life of a racehorse. Expect trainers and their teams to host a guided tour of their facilities, see horses exercise on the gallops and on treadmills and walkers. Some yards even have purpose-built equine swimming pools, an activity most horses enjoy just like humans. Physiotherapists, chiropractors and farriers are also an intrinsic part of any trainers’ yard, and many open days will offer demonstrations and insights into these all-important aspects of horse welfare.

Even for those with little interest in horses and horseracing, these open days promise a unique and family-friendly ‘day out’, amidst beautiful countryside.

National Racehorse Week is run by Great British Racing and funded primarily by the Racing Foundation and the Horserace Betting Levy Board, along with supporting partners The Jockey Club and Godolphin. This is a cross-industry platform that is supported and brought to life by a multitude of racing organisations and people from across the sport.

Bring A Friend Details
The promotion is open to residents of the UK (excl. Northern Ireland) aged 18 or over at the date on which they enter the promotion, excluding employees of the promoter, its group companies, its agents or anyone professionally connected with this promotion and any member of their respective immediate families.
Entry to this competition will run from the date of Tuesday 9th August, 2022 to the date of Friday, 9th September, 2022
No purchase is necessary to enter the promotion.
To enter the promotion, entrants must use the unique code when registering for their chosen venue.
Only one entry is permitted per person.
Two winners will be selected at random from all eligible entries under the supervision of an independent adjudicator.
The winners will be notified via email and will be asked to confirm their details for delivery of the prize.
