City & Country encourages careers in construction at Tendring Technology College
Essex teenagers learnt about careers in property and construction when representatives from heritage developer City & Country visited a college careers fair at Tendring Technology College – as the industry strives to recruit the next generation of talent.
The Year 9 careers fair recently took place at the Thorpe-le-Soken campus of Tendring Technology College, where a team from various departments at City & Country including marketing, interior design and planning spoke to students about the wide range of career opportunities within the property industry. Students were also shown plans and brochures for the City & Country development locally at Manningtree Park, which as a large employer in the area works with a number of local sub-contractors from trades through to sales.
Victoria Boulton, Marketing Manager said: “At City & Country, we are passionate about both the heritage and the future of our built environment and nurturing that passion within the next generation of employees.
“At a time when the industry faces severe labour shortages, it has never been more important to promote the exceptional and varied opportunities offered in the property sector within the classroom.
“It was very rewarding to introduce students to those opportunities and I hope we have encouraged a future architect or site manager. From quantity surveying, site and project management to interior design, sales, finance and marketing, property and construction careers take many exciting forms.”
She added: “After recently celebrating Women in Construction week, we were particularly delighted to see interest and enthusiasm among female students, particularly for male-dominated roles in the industry like architecture.” According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), women made up just 14.7% of the construction industry workforce at the end of 2022.
Sarah Austin and Heidi Gleave, the Careers Team at Tendring Technology College commented: “We’d like to thank City & Country for contributing to our Year 9 careers fair. It’s important to our school to illustrate the wide variety and choice of jobs available to our students in the future, and it was really interesting to hear more about the career opportunities available in the property industry.”
Jennifer Rhodes-Finch, Head of Marketing at the family-owned business, which was established 60 years ago, said: “At City & Country, we’re very proud to have a number of skilled women working on site at our developments across England.
“We offer our employees access to a training fund to ensure the opportunity to upskill and we would encourage anyone contemplating a career in the sector to take the leap and join our team at City & Country. We’re committed to helping the next generation of construction workers qualify and develop their careers with us.”
