Cloudaloud announces new partnership with CLPE
The announcement about the partnership is a timely one with the CLPE’s CLiPPA (CLPE’s Primary Poetry Award – the only award for published children’s poetry in the UK) ceremony fast approaching on 8th July. The shortlist is set to be available on the Cloudaloud app and Cloudaloud will continue to publish previous years’ CLiPPA winners in audio on an ongoing basis.
In recent years, but especially since the start of the pandemic, children’s engagement with audiobooks has been the subject of several studies. The National Literacy Trust’s research, particularly, shows that children in the UK are both benefiting from audio and becoming more adept at enjoying the medium. Audio provides a different way of learning, one which children love. Bringing it into the classroom can improve more than literacy rates; after listening, children are proven to be more interested in reading, more inspired to write and have higher levels of wellbeing.
Dr Katie Sparks, CEO, Cloudaloud comments: “With this new partnership, we are actively continuing our mission of making quality children’s literature more accessible to children in the UK and helping to support their education and literacy journey. And what better partner than the CLPE to share this work with? Their dedication across decades to promoting children’s literacy has been equal parts impressive and inspiring. We hope many more children will discover the joy of a good story or poem through this new audio partnership.”
Charlotte Hacking, Learning and Programme Director, CLPE adds: “At CLPE, we know that poetry is a very special genre. It provides the gateway for so many young readers and writers in their journey towards becoming literate; delighting, supporting and engaging children as they build a love of literature. It’s particularly important for poetry to be heard as well as read. This is how it really comes alive for children. Partnering with Cloudaloud is such an exciting opportunity for us, as we’ll be able to make the outstanding children’s poetry recognised by the CLiPPA available to children in a new and engaging way.”
The CLPE announcement also comes with the news of Cloudaloud’s newly launched education sister website Cloudaloud Education, a wonderful new resource hub for teachers and schools. Through this new website, Cloudaloud is committed to working with education experts to develop a deep understanding of the national curriculum, the challenges faced by educators and students and the ways in which audio can be harnessed in the school setting to enrich the classroom experience, enable children to engage with information and stories in new ways and make teachers’ lives easier!
Those teachers/schools who subscribe through Cloudaloud Education will receive:
A licence to access 1000s of audiobooks to be used as a digital library for their classroom.
A ‘Literacy Bundle’ of hard-copy books that correspond to the audiobooks on Cloudaloud, so they can be read in tandem with the audio as a support tool.
Access to additional resources, teachers’ notes, activities and information mapped to the curriculum to help educators seamlessly integrate audio into the classroom.
