Conor McGregor takes over iconic UK landmarks simultaneously: “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over”
UFC star and entrepreneur Conor McGregor has ‘taken over’ two of the most iconic British landmarks, the Angel of the North and the White Cliffs of Dover, along with various locations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London, as part of the Irishman’s UK ‘takeover’.
The enormous projections, which have been unveiled in numerous locations across the country over the last few nights, are to celebrate the launch of McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout in almost 400 Asda supermarkets across the UK from this Saturday 5th August.

We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over”.

That’s the message from combat sports icon and the first two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor, as enormous projections have lit up the British night sky at multiple landmarks over the last few days, celebrating the launch of his Forged Irish Stout, exclusively in Asda supermarkets.

Unsuspecting late night motorists were taken aback by McGregor’s gigantic likeness projected onto the Angel of the North in Gateshead. The sculpture stands 20 metres (66 ft) tall with a wingspan of 54 metres (177 ft), larger than that of a Boeing 757 aircraft.

At the exact same time, 350 miles away in Dover, a 200-foot tall projection of the larger than life Irishman was beamed onto the famous White Cliffs.

Additionally Scotland saw the UFC star takeover landmarks in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, with projections being launched across both cities, including the The Forth Bridge and Glasgow’s Barras Market. London was the final target, with projections unveiled around the cities famous sightseeing spots.

The projections celebrate the launch and exclusive stocking deal with Asda supermarkets across the UK, the first time the British public will be able to buy Forged Irish Stout in Nitro four can packs in shops. The cans will be available in more than 370 Asda stores across the country. More than 18 million people shop at Asda every single week.

The projections are part of a wider PR and marketing campaign that includes digital out-of-home marketing, touring ad vans, social media promotion, strategic influencer partnerships and event promotion.

The 4-can packs will be priced two for £10 or one for £5.75.

Forged Irish Stout was first brewed in late 2020 and until now, has been available exclusively in McGregor’s The Black Forge Inn near his childhood home in Crumlin, Dublin.

A smooth roasted stout ‘Forged’ has been described as the smoothest, creamiest, and freshest stout that enthusiasts can experience. The stout’s exceptional flavour profile is a result of a meticulously crafted blend of malts, including pale malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, black malt, roasted barley, and wheat. This unrivalled combination results in a stout with unparalleled depth and complexity, that sets Forged firmly apart from other stouts in the market.

Conor McGregor said,

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over. This launch comes as a culmination of 2 years of hard graft from myself and The Forged Irish Stout team and I’m immensely proud to finally be able to get it into the hands of the British public. We’ve huge plans for Forged in the UK, Ireland, the US and beyond and I can’t wait for you all to join us on the journey.”

Doug Leddin, chief marketing officer at Forged Irish Stout said,

“Created by one of the most famous and successful Irishmen in the world and brewed in our very own Dublin brewery, Forged is a 100% Irish stout. With this exclusive launch in Asda, we’re only just getting started.”

A major international launch event is already in the works for later this year, promising an unforgettable experience for stout connoisseurs across the globe.
