Dash Tabor: “THE Government’s policy on face-masks will create “misery and confusion” on our trains.”
THE Government’s policy on face-masks will create “misery and confusion” on our trains, a transport expert said today.
Dash Tabor warned Boris Johnson’s plan to scrap mandatory coverings will lead to millions of people steering clear of public transport.
Mr Johnson’s approach ahead of the July 19 unlock, has also been criticised by passenger campaign groups and transport workers’ unions.
Yesterday Ms Tabor, the founder of TUBR an app which helps London Underground passengers plan journeys away from crowds, said: “The overwhelming majority of commuters want to see the rules around face-masks stay in place.
“Almost three quarters of those we recently polled said a removal of the ban would stop them using public transport.
“The Government putting it in the hands of passengers is both short-sighted and cowardly.
“It is going to create misery and confusion and could well lead to a toxic environment on trains once we unlock.
“We need clear and strict advice which will help create confidence around our transport network and get people moving again safely.
According to TUBR, just 13 percent of people say they currently feel “relaxed” about returning to public transport. More than a third – 35% – say it has left them feeling “anxious”. While nearly one fifth – 18% – have stopped using trains and buses altogether.
