DOG FOOD BRAND SKINNER’S ENCOURAGES DOG PARENTS TO GET ACTIVE FOR NATIONAL WALK YOUR DOG MONTH
A recent study from the Royal Veterinary College has showed that a shocking one in 14 dogs are recorded by their vets as overweight each year, leading to shortened life spans, reduced quality of life, and higher frequency of illness and disease.
However, a recent survey by Skinner’s found that dog owners like to get active with their dogs, with 70% regularly taking their pups on runs with them.
So, for National Walk Your Dog Month, Skinner’s – the heritage dog food brand – is encouraging pet parents and four-legged friends to ‘Get Out & Go!’ this January to help combat pet obesity and get pet parents out and active by partnering with fitness app GoJoe.
The two brands have partnered to do a team-based distance challenge which virtually brings together pet parents across the nation. Over the month of January, Brits can either join Team Pedigree or Team Cross Breed and track the exercise they do including with their pet.
Any exercise, whether it’s a quick walk around the block or a Parkrun, will contribute to their team’s overall kilometres. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your pet, a lead and their favourite treats, and go out and get active this January!
The challenge doesn’t just focus on the distance, but pet parents can also upload social content with different challenges each week, such as early morning walks, walks with a view, or the muddiest walk. It’s all about a bit of fun and community spirit. The bottom line is that it’s about promoting wellbeing and active lifestyles.
Although your dog doesn’t need to be with you during every activity that you do during the challenge, there’s no need to exercise alone when you have your four-legged training partner ready and raring to go, and Skinner’s is here to help fuel your furry friend to carry them through the activities.
The new ‘Get Out & Go!’ range has been designed to support the dog’s energy requirements, whether it’s for everyday walks in the park to when pups need some extra energy to go on a hiking weekend, which would require a bit more fat and protein in their diet.
